Great ND Phone Mount

This simple mount for the ND Mx-5 Miata works great. Follow the installation video and it is not difficult to install. Some reviewers do not like that the phone moves when driving or think that the single piece of mounting tape is bound to fail. When I use it I position my phone so the bottom left edge of the phone case rests lightly on the dash pad. The phone case has a smooth rounded edge and is barely touching the dash pad, so the risk of damage to the dash is zero and the phone is 100 percent stable. This is a very simple and very effective phone mount that does not block the center vent and does not require you to use the front cup holder mount. I am really glad to have seen it on a YouTube video so I knew it was available.

Excellent mount for the ND but needs reinforcement

Mounts in a perfect location for keeping the phone out of the way of other devices in the small cabin. And does not occupy the passenger side cup holder or hold precariously onto a vent like some other holders. The disassembly to get to the mounting location was relatively easy with a little DIY skill. But the adhesive attachment seemed paltry. I modified the mounting with a small bolt for more secure attachment. It does require drilling a hole into the mounting bracket and the mounting surface. The phone has a perfect placement for viewing now. Without the bolt modification the project is relatively simple. A 1 out of 4 difficulty. Adding the mounting bolt makes it a 1.5 out of 4. I also ran a charging USB-C from an adapter in the 12v under the dash to the mount. The phone is stable in the cradle with very little movement in this relatively hard riding car. I’m pleased with the product.

The best I've tried

I’m giving this mount for the ND Miata 5 stars. I’ve purchased $100’s worth of phone mounts and the Course Motorsports works the best for me.

Adhesive mounts (Carmount) - These need to be adhered to the dash with a very sticky adhesive which unless you find a hard plastic area – you risk damaging the surface of the dash if you ever need to remove it. Space is at a premium on the ND’s dash. Looks unsightly and takes a lot of the ND’s dash space.

Vent mounts – The ND Miata has one vent in the center of the dash where a vent mount works. Problem is that is a lot of weight hanging off a small piece of plastic which you risk damaging, and you lose access to that vent. Looks unsightly.

Windshield mount – The windshield on an ND Miata is tiny. A phone hanging off the windshield would take up a ¼ of your view!

RSpeed mount – This is a solid contender and works well. My issue with it is it sticks out like a sore thumb on the dash. It uses a single hook behind the dash to hold on. I’m afraid that the mount would eventually dent the area behind it or mar it up.

Course Motorsports – This is my favorite. It uses a combination of an adhesive pad behind the dash and the dash itself to hold the mount in place. It looks great and matches the round air vents on the car (mag safe version). Can hardly tell it's there. Perfect spot to mount a phone and doesn’t interfere with the infotainment screen. Yes, there is some bounce of the phone going over rough roads, but it’s not any worse than other mounts. One way to reduce the amount of bounce would be to place a piece of stiff foam in the circled area in the photo below. I see no possible damage occurring due to the way it mounts.

Good but slightly flimsy

I would order again. Product is good and service is great. Mounting solution is not quite as sturdy as I would like. It is a better solution than any other I have encountered. I have a 2025 MX5 Miata GT stick shift.
